The HOTDROP is an easy-to-scale, simple-to-install metering solution that provides minute-by-minute data to improve energy consumption data without the complexities and high price tag of traditional metering devices.
BUILDING MANAGEMENT – Get better insight into the energy consumption of your building or group of buildings easily. The HOTDROP provide data to help you manage critical assets, mitigate unnecessary energy loss, and improve overall efficiencies.
TENANT MANAGEMENT – Understand how each tenant is consuming energy and improve billing efforts with accurate data. Use the HOTDROP to scale sub-metering efforts and gain granular insight into your tenants.
SUSTAINABILITY EFFORTS – It’s easier to improve your company’s sustainability efforts when you can easily see trends and forecast usage. Minute-by-minute data will help you find wins and losses in reducing your organization’s carbon footprint.
Why submetering?
Energy costs are on the rise, and as companies take a stab at reducing their utility costs and inefficiency, the first look is energy usage and changes to consumption in order to maintain efficiency standards. The cost of utilities at any scale of a building can cost businesses thousands, even hundreds of thousands, of dollars per year. Submetering gives insight into data, down to a circuit level to visualize water, gas, and electric usage.
What can it do for businesses and buildings?
There are many benefits to submetering and the ability to access real-time data, to better manage energy consumption and cost. The short- and long-term benefits of submetering range from immediately providing visibility and insight into energy consumption throughout commercial and residential buildings. This allows anyone visualizing the data to plan for improving building efficiency goals and standards. Submetering benefits tenants, buildings owners, developers, etc. by identifying inefficient and broken equipment that’s linked to unnecessary energy usage. Improving energy efficiency in existing buildings, factories, and warehouses is critical to understanding building performance. A critical factor for buildings to reduce over-consumption and inefficiency, is to consistently receive that accurate minute-by-minute data about all machinery and equipment throughout an entire facility.
The Sigflow solution goes hand in hand with providing real-time data for customers actual energy usage, and the ability to monitor that data to improve current processes and standards. Using innovative and cost-effective technology allows companies across a range of businesses and commercial industries to gain relevant and timely insights into their buildings energy usage.
One of the easiest ways to lose control of electricity costs is by what utilities refer to as peak demand charges. That means a utility provider will charge a greater cost per kWh when demand is greater to discourage consumers from maximum consumption, which can heavily tax utility infrastructure during these peak times. This encourages consumers to shift their usage to off-peak hours and reduces the chance that the grid reaches dangerous capacity levels. Submeters with minute-by-minute or hourly reporting allow companies to manage peak demand and mitigate additional costs.
In non-submetered commercial and residential buildings, tenants are typically billed on square footage of rented space. In this scenario, the landlord receives an electrical bill for the entire facility and, in turn, bills each tenant based on the amount of space they rent. The problem is that tenants are not billed based on consumption behavior, but rather they are billed based on the total consumption of the all tenants. Submetering each tenant allows the landlord or property owner to charge tenants by their actual usage rather than splitting the cost across tenants by square footage.
With rising energy costs and a greater emphasis on energy efficiency, all types of facilities are looking to better understand their consumption and what drives increased electrical bills. Submetering gives the user the ability to monitor individual pieces and identify inefficiencies in machinery or processes. By identifying issues, companies can invest in improvements or create policies to help mitigate high costs.
By installing submeters, companies can have a better idea of its sustainability goals and the progress its making. Companies can use the submeter data to tout successes and show overall improvements to its sustainability.
